As the season begins to change and the weather cools down in the evenings the anglers report fishing is awesome, according to Professional Guide Roger LaPenter. It isn’t uncommon to catch a 5 pound bass in the month of September and some nice size Trout, Salmon, Bass and Walleye.
“There is just something great about fishing at this time of year” Roger said. “The water temps are up and down but the fish are biting like crazy”.Fishing continues to be hot in the flats right now and there have been quite a large number of Lake Trout being caught in the South Channel all the way to OuterIsland. The fish are in 90 to 100 feet of water on the flats.
Quite a number of Browns are being caught at the mouth of the Sioux and the Onion River. Fishing in the shallows has been good and anglers report catching Browns around Houghton Point too.
Trollers continue to be happy with fishing right now. There has been some great action trolling the weed beds, using stickbaits, and crawlers. Some anglers have also reported using spoons or spin-n-glows.
Never be afraid of changing out your bait. It seems the fish are biting on it all right now. The wind direction can play a major part in fish biting. Always check with the local bait shops to hear what the wind direction is and ask where the hot spots are.
Anglers fishing the Inlands are reporting that evening fishing has been better because its cooler and the fish are moving around in the cooler water. Also try the early morning right around sunrise or earlier.
