Washburn County Fishing Reports 1-16-13

**Please always use caution when going on frozen lakes.  View the Wisconsin DNR Ice Fishing tips here.

1/15/13 reported by  Long Lake Bait & Tackle:

Here's the latest fishing report for Long Lake: Ice Conditions being reported in are still a good 8" to some spots with 12".  ATV's and Snowmobiles are on the lake and a few brave soles with vehicles. As always enter at your own risk!  Fishing has slowed just a bit with the cold snap that came through last week.  Still catching nice sized Walleye after dusk with medium to large Shiners and some suckers.  Still lots of Bluegill various sizes and Crappie.  Northern still heavy with some Perch and Nice sized Bass 4+ lbs.

The weekend weather turned cold and windy ,but the fishing was good. We have some nice northern and crappie brought in. This week has started slow, again the weather is cold. Looking forward to the weekend , Saturday will be the 26th annual Barronett Ice fishing conetest on Shallow Lake..and Sunday is the Shell Lake FFA ice fishing contest on Bashaw. We have all the bait you need , from Spikes and waxies to all sizes aof suckers and shiners...and frozen smelt and Cisco's too.

Most lakes in Washburn County have 8 to 12 inches of ice cover, and area anglers have been taking advantage of the conditions. Spooner Lake has been giving up good numbers of bluegills and crappies, afternoons seem to be better than early mornings. Waxies or spikes on tear drop jigs have been working well. A few nice pike have been caught out on Shell lake recently. Northern minnows under tip ups set near weed lines seem to be working here. A lot of bass and pike are coming out of a host of smaller lakes too. I haven't heard much about walleyes, either folks aren't catching much or they're good at keeping secrets!
Good luck and good fishing.

Fishing report for Long Lake remains much the same as last week.  Northern are plentiful! Some really nice Walleye are being caught after dusk and into the 9-10 p.m. time frame using Suckers & Shiners of various sizes both jigging and on tip-ups 5-15 feet of water.  Lot's of Bluegills of all sizes on Waxies and some Spikes.  Nice Perch and a few reports of nice bass too!  Crappie are slower in about 30' of water 12"- 14" using crappie minnows.  Ice reports coming in are still 8"-11" with an occasional 12".  There is ATV & Snowmobile trafic on the lake with a few brave souls out in light trucks.  As always enter the lake ice at your own risk!  We are hoping that the warmer temps don't deteriorate it too much this weekend!
