Turtle Flambeau Flowage Walleyes Scattered
By Professional Guide Jerry “Jerkbait” Hartigan
The walleye bite on the Flowage has been very scattered over the last week with lots of storms coming through each day. Walleye are still hitting half a crawler on a weedless jig mostly in wood flats in 8 to 10ft of water. I did pick up some fish in 14ft and also got some bigger fish in 5ft, so the fish are definitely scattered.
Smallmouth are also in the wood with the walleye, but this morning we picked up some fish casting crank baits along weed edges. We musky fished a couple of days ago and had perfect conditions with a west wind, overcast skies and a building storm. Things could not have been better other than the musky did not realize it was so perfect. We only ended up with one follow on a bucktail, and one hit on a Shallow Raider before the lightning chased us of the water.
I did catch a 14 inch crappie yesterday that was still filled with eggs so I assume that they did not pull off a successful spawn this year. We were chased off the water again this morning by storms but the next several days are supposed to be nice so maybe that will get the fish in a normal pattern. I will let you know how it goes.
