Walleyes, Smallmouth Cooperate on Turtle Flambeau Despite High Winds

By Professional Guide Jerkbait Hartigan

Last week we did good on walleye and smallmouth, with walleye being in 6 to 8ft in scattered wood and the smallies along the rock shorelines.  The walleyes were still taking jigs and minnows the best.  Smallmouth were also hitting jigs and minnows along with some 3 and 4 inch Gulp minnows on Oddball jigs.

Today we had a hard time with strong winds and the threat of big storms moving by us all day.  We did manage to get a nice bunch of 16 to 19 inch walleyes along with many released fish.  Jigs and minnows were still the best, but we did pick up some fish on leeches.  We also picked up a few nice smallies while looking for walleyes.

We tried for some crappies up in new weeds but the wind made it hard to even anchor.  We had a few fish on but lost them as the wind dragged us through the weeds.  I will let you know how the Memorial weekend goes.
