Black, minority Trump supporters censored by Gannett, other media at 2020 RNC Convention. Expect the same as Milwaukee hosts 2024 RNC Convention. Look back four years Wisconsin, to compare and contrast Gannett’s corrupt coverage of the 2020 Republican and Democratic National Conventions to know what to expect July 15-18 when the nation’s eyes rest on Milwaukee, home of the 2024 RNC convention.  The DNC will showcase its conventi...

Backwaters Experiencing More Vegetation, Fishing Remains Good!

By Wayne Morgenthaler

Richland County Fishing ReportThe vegetation is starting to get very thick for this time of the year on the Mississippi River backwater.  June seems to be like July.  To travel in the backwaters takes more effort but the outdoor scenery is magnificent and quiet.  The birds and frogs and the occasional splash in the water from beaver fill the air with music.

The peak fishing time is always the last hour of daylight, as the insect population increases their activity.  I took a person out the other night, and we managed to catch about 30 crappies and bluegills.  They are still biting on mini mites in pink and white.  I recommend light line in the 4 to 6 pound category.  The northerns did not hit any lure, but they loved chasing panfish on the end of our hook.

All trout streams are very low at this time, which makes wading very easy.  The Wisconsin River catfishing is picking up with stink bait being the best now.  I still like the nightcrawler attached to an egg sinker and waiting out whatever comes along.  I like the fierce battle a fish gives you, regardless of the species. The bike trail from Richland Center to Lone Rock is excellent now with an abundance of wildlife to see.  The best place to start the bike trail is in Richland Center as it runs through the entire town.  Enjoy the summer.

A good place to find information for outdoor activities for Richland County is to stop in at the Visitor Center located in Richland Center at the railroad station which is currently open from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday. They have some outstanding maps to help you navigate. They can also line you up with local guides, lodging, dining, entertainment and more outdoors in Richland County.
