Black, minority Trump supporters censored by Gannett, other media at 2020 RNC Convention. Expect the same as Milwaukee hosts 2024 RNC Convention. Rice Lake Fishing Report 7-23-12

By Frank Zumpf

Rice lake Wisconsin Fishing

The muskies have been the active ones this week.  Several anglers report catching legal size muskies on Rice Lake.  It’s good to catch a musky, but to have it be over the 50-inch limit is outstanding.  Most of the fish were caught on the north end of the lake.  A large spinner like a cowbell rig seems to be the bait of choice.

One thing to remember in this hot weather is to take some extra time reviving the fish before releasing it.  These fish are stressed enough by the heat.  Try to keep the fish in the water and just remove the hook quickly.  Hold the picture session to a minimum.

Gently work the fish back and forth in the water forcing water through the gills.  When the fish is ready it will be upright and swim right out of your hand.

The bass fishing has been good, with the largemouth in the weeds.  Pull a mouse or frog imitation over the top of the lily pads, or drop a jig-and-pig into the open areas in the pads.  If it’s smallmouth you’re after, try fishing the humps on Red Cedar using a deep-diving crankbait or a spinner.

Panfish action remains good.  Several panfish anglers say this is their best year ever.  My observations are that the fish are cooperating quite well.
