Cloudy, Rainy Days Make For Good Trout Fishing

By Wayne Morgenthaler

I was out the day after we had an inch of rain and the trout streams were very murky.  The Panther Martin size 2 spinner in silver was my offering of choice.

Since the water visibility was very limited for the fish, I let the spinner sink near the bottom and retrieved slowly.  This proved to be the right combination to get the fish active.  I caught and released about 20 brown trout with the largest being 12 inches.

Trout Fishing Wisconsin River Richland County Wisconsin River Fishing

I prefer wading upstream and had a lot of fun in a short period of time. The Wisconsin River is good fishing now if you can find the deep holes.  Nightcrawlers and stink bait seem to be the best for catfish.

A good place to get information for outdoor activities for Richland County is to stop in at the Visitor Center located in Richland Center at the railroad station which is currently open from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday.  They have some outstanding maps to help you navigate. They can also line you up with local guides.  They are located on Hwy 14 in the middle of town and just look for the railroad car and station.

There is a stop light at the intersection that you will need to turn on.
