Price County Fishing Report 7-15-2013
We are still doing very well on Panfish and Walleye in the Phillips Area. July is usually a time of year when the warm temps seem to slow the fishing down but this year things are really starting to heat up. Gills, Crappie, Perch, Walleye and Smallies are all being taken in the same areas.
The magic water depth seems to be anywhere from 8 to 15 feet of water. Look for some wood cover on the bottom of the lake with your electronics and the fish will be there. Crawlers and Leeches are doing well and catching all species of fish. If you want to target just the Walleye and Smallmouth try using a Jig and tipping it with a 3″ Twister Tail, Berkley Gulp, or Uncle Josh Meat. Cranks are also taking bigger fish.
Largemouth Bass are slipping into thick cover. Frogs or weedless rigged Garlic Sticks by Slop Monster are working well for us and can be pulled thru some of the thickest cover without trouble.
Musky action is a little on the slow side. I have been moving most of my fish very early in the morning or the last hour of day light and into the night. I have been seeing some fish mid-day as well but mostly in the slop. Check out this great Blog by Joel DeBoer for more info on fishing slop.

Pictured is an average sized Musky that I caught on Thursday about one or two hours before sunset on a Lake X Lures Dr. Evil. The fish was released to have a chance to grow to trophy size. The fish is shown being released. Also pictured is my son Chayton Carlson with another Bluegill that he caught on a 1/16 jig with a chunk of crawler.
