Price County Fishing Report 5/7/2013

Things started out a little cold and slow opening day but by the end of the morning the sun peaked out and temps warmed.

The walleye were sluggish but fishermen still managed to catch some nice eaters, mostly males. Most of the fish seemed to be in 6 foot of water and on rock or gravel. Areas like the Hwy 13 bridge and some of the rock points on Long were good producers. Jigs and Minnows or Jigs and Moxies were the ticket.

On a slow bite try using a lindy rig with a short 6 to 8 inch snell and work it more like a jig. We call it rig-jigging. When you feel a bite you can give the fish line so the fish can take the bait without feeling the weigh. This works great when walleye are dropping jigs and allows you to fish heavier weights when fishing in current or wind.
Water temps as of Sunday were ranging from 42 to 48 degrees on the Phillips Chain.

Walleyes are still spawning so if you catch a female with eggs in please think about releasing her.
