Price County Fishing Report 10-30-12
By Professional Guide John Carlson
Most of the fish are in their fall pattern right now. Anglers are reporting walleye in 18 to 30 feet of water and crappie action between 25 and 35 feet of water. Both species are sticking close to the bottom of the lake and are being taken on fathead-tipped jigs or slip bobbers.
The Smallmouth have really turned back on. Look for them on the steeper rock shorelines and rock humps. We are finding them at the bottom of the humps where the rock and mud bottom meet. Deep cranks or jigs and plastics are your best bet for these hard fighting fish.
The Musky action is still good; we are still getting most of our fish on lures. This week it was more on large plastics including Mag Dawgs, Double Dawgs or Mag Super D's worked slowly on the breaks. All worked well for us.
On the lakes with green weeds the fish were holding close. On the lakes with no weeds the musky were dropping off into deeper water. I would still suggest a sucker or two to catch that late following fish.
Pictured are a few of the Musky that we put in the boat over the weekend.
