Northwestern Wisconsin Fishing Report

What a difference a week makes! Sunshine, increasing water temperatures, and weeds starting to green up are the main ingredients for a great fishing trip!
Walleye fishing has been fair to good. Fishing rock bars and weed edges with a jig and minnow, small Rapplas, or Shad Raps seem to work best. Anglers have been catching walleyes, mostly males, in the evenings or early mornings.
Plastics are really working as the pre-spawn bass are starting to move into the shallows. Make sure you have extra baits as the northerns are cruising the same areas and are cutting lines.
A few trips on area lakes for panfish have revealed that the female crappies are in shallow… 2’ to 4’ of water, and the bluegills are still off the weed edges in their pre-spawn mode hitting on live bait and small ice fishing-type lures.
Area trout lakes and streams are seeing an increase in insect activity causing the trout to be very active in the evening or on cloudy days. If you are not a fly rod enthusiast, small Rooster Tails, Blue Fox, or Mepps spinners will work well for you.
Enjoy the weather, the fishing, and don’t forget the fish catching here in northwestern Wisconsin!
