Minocqua Area Fishing Report 3-19-2013
And the snow just keeps coming... With another two days of snow in the forecast, temperatures projected to rise later this week. Travel on lakes still difficult with vehicles and most anglers walking out to fish. It’s hard to believe that a year ago at this time it was 73 degrees and the ice was out by the 21st of March. Some reports of people doing well this past weekend with multi species.
Crappie: Good-Improving. Some anglers picking up fish right off the bottom in 8-12 feet of water. Other bigger catches being found still suspended. Crappie minnows on tip-downs and anglers using plastic tipped jigs such as Ratsos , Shrimpos and Bloodworms working well. Rockers and Little Cecils tipped with waxies and spikes also catching fish.
Perch: Good-Very good. Deeper mud flats of 15-30’ producing catches mostly feeding on wigglers and bloodworms that are producing larger fish. Tip downs with rosie reds also scoring fish. Number 2 Pimples, Slender spoons, Hali jigs and Fiska tungsten jigs tipped with wigglers, waxie and spikes still working. Smaller fish still being caught in shallower weed edges.
Bluegills: Good. Small tungsten, shad darts and small moon glows tipped with spikes, waxies and chena. Depths of 7-12’ along weed edges are producing fish. Good bite before snow arriving, slowing down after mid-morning.
High hopes with projected warmer temps later in the week will settle snow on the lakes and the bite to improve along with the weather.
