Lake Geneva Fishing Report 7/8/13 through 7/15/13

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July.  We finally saw the rain move out and had some great weather.  The warm weather is increasing the water temperatures and they are hovering around 75 degrees.  The boat traffic was intense over the holiday weekend but with the holiday in the past, it should decrease making fishing more enjoyable.

Lake Trout fishing has been very good.  The fish are 75-90 ft down in 105-110 ft of water.  The main lake basin between Conference Point and Cedar Point still remains the best location.  You want to troll a pearl Dodger with green flies for the best success.  Your trolling speed should be about 1.5 mph to 1.8 mph.  Trolling into the wind seems to produce the most strikes.

Bluegill fishing has been excellent.  The best depth is 12-13 ft of water.  With the warmer weather the fish have been moving out slightly.  The best location is by Knollwood or by Linn Pier.  ½ of a nightcralwer remains the bait of choice.

Rock bass fishing has slowed down just slightly.  The best location has been by Elgin Club drifting through Knollwood.  The fish are in 12-13 ft of water.  Small white hair jigs or nightcrawler pieces remain the best bets for bait.

Northern pike fishing has started to pick up as the thermocline has begun to form.  The fish are in 28-30 ft of water.  The best location is by Fontana or the north side of the narrows.  The best approach is lindy rigging medium suckers slowly back trolled into the wind.

Largemouth and Smallmouth bass fishing has become tougher with the warmer water.  All of the fish are now post spawn.  I have found most of my fish at Trinkes Bay or the weedline by Linn Pier.  The best approach is either a split shot rigged nightcrawler or a drop shot rigged green pumpkin worm.  The best depth for the bass appears to be 12-13 ft of water.  With all of the big pods of minnows in the lake this year, top water lures are an option when you see you actively feeding fish.

Walleye fishing has started to improve at night.  You want to troll large crank baits in either gold and black or chrome and blue.  The best nights are when there is a slight wind or chop on the water.  Try to find them by Trinkes or Fontana Beach.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
