Iron County Fishing Report 5-14-13
As I sit here at my computer on May 12th I am watching the wonderful snow turning the ground white once again. It is driving me crazy. On a better note, the ice has finally gone out on most of the lakes in the area and the walleye are finally spawning.
The water has been so cold that the only placse we could find active fish were where there was flowing water coming out of creeks or small rivers that had warmed up from the sun. That raised the water temp to the mid-forties where the walleye were able to spawn.
Some areas on the Turtle Flambeau had warmed enough that there was muskies cruising along shore starting their spawning rituals. In the last couple of days we found fish along windblown gravel islands in 2 to 10 feet of water. These fish were not real aggressive, but definitely catchable as we caught lots of fish in some spots. Jigs and minnows seemed to be working the best, but white plastics are also catching fish. Today was 40 degrees with high winds and snow squalls all day so I stayed off the water. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little better so I should be out on the water.
