Jim Hudson, Hudson's On the Spot Guide Service Fishing Report 10-18-12

Jim Hudson, Hudson's On the Spot Guide Service, 715-209-6431,
hudson@fishchequamegonbay.com.

The Fall Bite is on!Temps are below 50 now and most fish in the bay are pushed in and putting the feed bag on. Always a great time of the year to fish, as you never know what your next cast or troll will get ya. We will have our boat in the water right until freeze-up. So, give us a call for a late season fishing trip. With that in mind, we are offering a 20 percent discount on all full day trips (6 hours), booked from now until we put the boat away for the season. From Smallmouth to late season trolling for browns, splake, steelhead and salmon, we are looking forward to putting you on some fantastic fishing.

Smallmouth is the big thing right now, as these gluttons are stacked up and feeding well. Once the water temps dropped below 50 degrees, they schooled and have now been on a tear. We have seen numbers of fish already in the 70s for a full day trip with the average fish in that 16 to 18 inch range, with quite a few pushing 20 or larger. No better time of year to catch lots of very big fish.

Trolling the river mouths has still been producing for us, where Salmon have still been plentiful. But, this bite will start to wane soon and we will turn our attention to near shore trout species. Until then, we will continue to stay on the salmon bite, as we have never had these kinds of numbers before. Three person limits of coho has been the norm the past week and lots of these fish have still been silver and feeding, so, we are thinking at least another week we should see good numbers of Coho. And as the water temps continue to drop, the other trout species will pick-up, right until the
lake freezes.
