Delavan Lake Fishing Report 7/8/13 through 7/15/13

The slow no-wake order has expired and the water clarity has been improving and the weedlines are starting to form nicely with the warmer weather and water.

Northern Pike fishing has been improving.  Lindy rigging the weedlines in 17-18 ft of water has been the best method.  Most of the fish are being caught on large suckers.  The small suckers don’t seem to be producing as many fish, the pike are being finicky on the bait size this year.  My best success has come near the Belvidere condos or by Del Mar subdivision.

Largemouth bass fishing has been turning on well.  The fish are starting to form large schools.  I’m finding the fish on main lake points with scattered weeds.  The best approach is drop shotting small plastic worms or lindy rigging nightcrawlers.  My trip on Sunday 7/7, we landed and released six 5 lb largemouth.

Perch fishing remains very good.  Most of the action is coming by Lake Lawn Lodge golf course in 6-9 ft of water.  The best bait is hellgrammites fished on a Thill slip bobber.  The perch population seems to be increasing, the catch numbers have been increasing over the previous years.

With the warmer weather, the bluegills are starting to move into deeper water depths.  The best depth is 15-18 ft of water.  Look for the fish by 3 flags or by Assembly Park Point.  The best approach is straight lining leaf worms with a single split shot underneath the boat.  As the water continues to warm, the fish will go as deep as 22-24 ft.  The summer pattern on Delavan is always a deep water bite for the bigger fish.

Last week I caught a tremendous amount of smallmouth bass, I was averaging 2-3 fish per trip which is high for this time of year.  The fish were on main lake points.  A couple of the bass were in excess of 19 inches.  The largest was caught on a lindy rigged sucker in 18 ft of water.  The smaller bass have been hitting on a split shot rigged nightcrawler.  Look for the fish by Willow Point or the Village Supper club.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
