Last weekend was free fishing weekend. Sat was a busy day people reporting catching bass and northerns on area lakes. Pan fish being caught on waxes. After Sat. frigid temps slowed down fishermen on going out. Time to put another log on the fire. Up coming weekend weather looks good.

Fishing was pretty good up until Sunday p.m. Not many folks out there braving the cold temps to bring in reports. Prior to Sunday, still some good Bluegills using waxies, and a few crappie. Quite a few Northern and Walleye using mostly shiners and some suckers. Had some really nice Walleye caught in the evenings 28+!!!

We've got plenty of ice in Washburn County , just not much snow however. Walking on slick ice without any snow cover can be a recipe for disaster, a broken arm, wrist, hip or even a concussion from falling on unforgivingly hard ice can be a harsh reality. Buying a pair of creepers that slip on over your boots can give you the additional traction needed to walk safely on ice conditions like we currently have here in the northwoods. Plenty of area retailers sell them, Spooner Outlet and AAA Sports are great places to look. Creepers just might save you from a having a really bad day.
Bluegills have been bitting really good on some of the smaller lakes. I set up a frequent client on a spot Monday and he caught fish all morning and well into the afternoon. Wax worms on small jigs worked near the bottom in 20 feet of water worked well.
Tip up fishermen continue to catch pike and bass with live shiners or walleye suckers. Spread your tip ups out along weeds in 6 to 18 feet and concentrate on turns along the weedline.
Good luck and good fishing,
