Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 7-25-2013

The action for all species has been very good this past week.  With the cooler temperatures that we have been receiving the water temperatures have gone down about 10 degrees and the fish have been very active.

We have had great catches of panfish from crappies and bluegills by working deeper structure in both the river sections and the main lake.  Small 1/16th ounce jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or a small minnow are doing the trick as are minnows suspended below slip bobbers at various depths for the crappies.

The walleye bite has been very good with nice catches of fish this past week. Most of the action has come by working 1/8th ounce jigs in 10 to 14 feet or water along the main river channel, but a few guys are picking up some nice fish by long-line trolling crankbaits in 6 to 12 feet of water.

If it is action your looking for, the smallmouth bass have been on fire with fish up to and over 20 inches long. We are targeting the smallmouth bass in shallow rocky sections of the river and along rip-rap sections on the main lake. For baits we are running crawfish style crankbaits and jigs tipped with tubes and plastics like beaver tails and imitation crawfish.

Musky action has been good and with the cooler water temperatures we have started targeting them again. Top water baits followed by large spinner baits have been working the best for us but we have also had action by running large bucktails and twitch baits over thick weedy areas.

Have a great week,
