Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 7-10-13

Central Wisconsin fishing

Great bite from walleyes this past week by anglers long-lining crankbaits in 6 to 10 feet of water.  The action for crappies has been reliable and very consistent.  We have found most of the crappies suspended about 5 feet down over 10 to 16 feet of water. The bluegill bite has picked up the past few weeks and a lot of that is associated with the warmer temperatures. The rising water temperatures forces the gills to structure like weeds and submerged wood.  Locate the structure and you will find the fish. Guys looking for action can count on the smallmouth bass in our area.  We caught quite a few very nice smallies this past week in the 3 to 5 pound range by running top water baits and crankbaits in shallow rocky areas.  Action for muskies has remained consistent even as we enter the warm summer months.  We have had great action running top water baits and large bucktails early and late in the day and during mid day hours deep diving crankbaits and plastics like Bulldawgs are working well.  For you guys with fall bear season tags, it is time to start thinking about getting those bait stations going. Before you know it season will be here and you don't want to miss out on getting a prime location and/or possibly your opportunity to tag a big bruin.
