Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 8-23-2013

Bears in the bait......  With the 2013 bear season only a couple of weeks away hunters with kill tags are getting very anxious and rightly so.  The numbers are up and the activity on the baiting stations has been very good.  The best thing hunters can do right now is to keep regularly changing up the type of goodies that they are giving the bears to keep them coming into their stations.

The fishing has been outstanding with great opportunities from various species.  The walleye bite has been good on the Wisconsin River system by working the deeper holes from 10 to14 feet of water with jig and minnow combinations. A few guys are long line trolling stick baits and doing well too.  Bass have been very active and jig and plastics are still the best bait, but nothing beats the action from a topwater explosion on a Chug Bug or Heddon Torpedo which are working well too.  The panfish bite has been good from both bluegills and crappies as well as a few perch. Most of the action is from submerged wood in deep water but a few fish are being caught roaming the vast mud flats in search of food.  The musky activity is picking up with action on bucktails still being the best bet.  Most of the action is taking place early in the morning or late in the evening with some after dark activity as well.

Have a great week,
