Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 4-26-2013
Great walleye bite on the Wisconsin River right now. Lots of nice eating sized fish being caught and a few very nice slot fish (20 to 28 inches) as well. Most of the action has been coming on lead head jigs tipped with fathead minnows working the deeper pools in the river but lately with the higher faster water a lot of the fish have slid up to shallower water and are staged in shoreline eddies and along river seams and current breaks.

Crappies have also been very active and we have been catching a lot of them this past week. Most of the fish have come while walleye fishing but instead of being on the bottom like the walleyes they are suspended about 5 to 7 feet down over the deeper water. They have been picking up our jig and minnow combinations midrange while they are sinking to the bottom. So I set out a few slip bobbers run at the proper depths and have done very well just targeting them.

Turkey hunters are still having a banner season and a lot of big toms are being taken. Now with the snow starting to disappear and warmer temperatures finally here the birds are starting to become more vocal and active. Your best chance for success right now is to try setting up on or near field edges and run a series of 1 gobbler decoy (I like the B-Mobile) and then run 2 hen decoys set about 3 to 6 yards from the tom decoy. Put these decoys about 15 to 20 yards out in front of you and get ready for the action to start.
If you are or have been thinking about putting in deer and turkey food plots right now is a great time to get started. This is the time of the year that you want to get out and have your land surveyed and gone over by a professional to make sure that the plots turn out the way you want them too. If you have any questions or concerns the guys over at Reed and Hoppe's http://www.foodplotting.com/ are professionals and they do a great job. I would highly recommend anyone looking at getting food plot work done, or even if you are doing it yourself to give these guys a call for help and assistance. You won't be sorry!
Have a great week,
Phil Schweik
