WOW! What a great summer! Sun…heat…heat…and heat! The fishing guides continue to be busy showcasing the Greatest of the Great Lakes; Lake Superior, where fishing has been good all summer. You can fish from the shore, the docks, boats, the big Lake or browse the many Inland Lakes. Catching fishing is not the questions. It’s what species of fish will hit every time you hit our waters.
September fishing is always good. Try your hand at fishing and enjoy the September events. Muralfest and Car Show downtown Ashland, just one block up from Lake Superior on Saturday, September 8th from 10am to 2pm. Carolyn from Anglers All Bait Shop, 715-682-5754 reports:
Fishing is hot in the flats right now and there have been quite a large number of Lake Trout being caught in the South Channel all the way to Outer Island.
Fishing in the shallows has been good and anglers report catching Browns around Houghton Point. Trolling has been awesome around the weed beds with anglers using stickbaits, leeches or crawlers but still many are using spoons or spin-n-glows. If you need to change out the bait, try bait flies, or squids.
The wind direction can play a major part in fish biting. Always check with the local bait shops to hear what the wind direction is and ask where the hot spots are. Bass are all over the Lake but especially in the hot spots. Anglers fishing the Inlands are reporting evening fishing has been better because it's cooler; the fish are moving around in the cooler water. Try the early morning around sunrise or earlier for good fishing. The water temperature remains in the 70's, depending on the wind.
