Ashland Area Fishing Report 3-8-2013

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All (715)-682-5754, http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com reports:

There is still plenty of ice fishing time left for the season. There are reports of many species of fish being caught right out on the bay in Ashland. Perch have been extremely plentiful and are a good size. Also, there are some nice size Browns being caught. Walleyes and `White Fish are biting and the Coho's have managed to move into the Bay and are starting to bite. Be cautious of slush water on the surface on some of the ice roads. Look out for some pressure cracks and heaves. There are some nice size Northerns being caught in the Bay using golden shiners on tip-ups. Lake shiners are being used on tip-ups for all species of fish and you can try waxies and spikes for your bait.

Fishing Guide Scott Bretting, River Rock Inn and Bait Shop, 715-682-3232. info@riverrockinn.net reports:

There is still good ice and snow on Chequamegon Bay. The Coho's are phenomenal in front of the coal dock right now and the Perch are biting like crazy by the light house. If you are catching bite after bite of small Perch, you may want to move as the bigger Perch will not be in that spot. There have been quite a few Walleye’s being caught off the end of the Oredock. There are roads plowed out on the lake but you always need to use precaution and check the ice.

The inlands have been busy with Crappies and Pan Fish. The Mellen Inlands in Ashland County have had some nice catches. Walleye, Northern’s and Bass fishing on the Inland Lakes is closed until May 4th. The “Spring Bite” is coming so ice fishing is still good!

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce reports:

It's Always a good idea to call for a safe ice fishing report before you venture out. Use caution when you are planning an ice fishing trip. Call the local bait shops for ice conditions. (Anglers All, 715-682-5754 or River Rock, 715-682-3232).

All permanent ice fishing shacks need to be off the ice by March 15th but you can still bring out your portable tents but you need to take them off at the end of your fishing day.
