Ashland Area Fishing Report 4-4-2013

Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter from Anglers All, (715)-682-5754,  http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com reports:

Ice Fishing is still happening on Chequamegon Bay. The fishing seems to be getting better but traveling around is really getting tougher. There are some slush holes to be aware of. Roger says snowmobiles and 4-wheelers are the only source of travel or by foot. It is highly recommended for safety to bring ice picks with you at all times when going on the ice!! Also bring an ice bar to check the ice where you will be fishing. There have been some nice size Coho’s being caught by the Coal Dock in Ashland. Fishing could become better at the River Mouths as we get the warm run-off at the rivers due to the ice melt. Early Steelhead Season is open on the tributary streams of Lake Superior and they are open up to the first barrier. For locations of the barriers, check the Wisconsin fishing regulations.

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce reports:

Call the local bait shops for any fishing news! (Anglers All, 715-682-5754 or River Rock, 715-682-3232).
The Ashland Chamber will have a "Smelt Hotline" on 800-284-9484 or check out our website at www.visitashland.com.

We still have a lot of ice in the Bay…in fact there are still some anglers trying their hand at ice fishing. The “Smelt Calls” have been coming in daily. Everyone is wondering when the Smelt will be running. Well, it’s a Mother Nature call, as soon as the ice moves out of the Bay they will start running. As a rule it has been the third week in April but many are predicting the fourth week this year. We will keep you posted!!!
