Salmon Run Gives Public Unique Viewing Opportunities
The salmon are surging into rivers along the Lake Michigan shoreline and Wisconsin DNR fisheries experts are standing by to help give Mother Nature a hand during the annual spawning ritual. Want to see what's going on right now at the C.D. "Buzz Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility in Kewaunee? Check out this cool video our staff took of the salmon climbing the facility's ladder.
Each year, DNR crews collect eggs and milt to produce the next generation of chinook and coho for Lake Michigan stocking. These efforts help make a strong fishery even better and will be celebrated at public open house events at the C.D. "Buzz" Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.and the Root River Steelhead Facility on Oct. 11, also from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Wednesday Oct. 8, join DNR fisheries experts for a live, online chat at noon to answer your questions and take comments about Lake Michigan salmon fishing and DNR’s stocking efforts.
