Richland County Fishing Report—Sept 16, 2014
The writer, Wayne Morgenthaler with a 35 pound sturgeon after his friend caught a 90 pound fish earlier.
We have had plenty of rain but the good side is that most of it has been absorbed by the soil. Trout streams remain normal with Sept 30th being the end of the season. Trout are biting on all types of bait with some nice 17 inchers being taken. Best trout bite is early morning or late evening.
The sturgeon are hard to find now as the river is up about two feet. Best bait for these big fish are a gob of night crawlers on a large hook followed by two egg sinkers about a foot up from the bait. The backwaters along Lone Rock have slowed down. Surface baits are working well for northern pike. There is a size limit so make sure to check your rules.
