Richland County Fishing Report

By Wayne Mogenthaler

Wisconsin River action good now

fishing

Trout fishing is improving every day as the weather is getting a bit cooler.  The grasses along the streams are starting to lay down. We had a nice rain over the weekend which helped the stream water levels. Fishing the backwaters is not very good at this time as goose hunters and duck hunters are starting to appear.  The Wisconsin River action is great now if you have plenty of night crawlers.  You just never know what you are going to catch but the bite is non-stop in the deeper holes.

Don’t forget to stop at the Visitor’s Center office (608-647-6205) located in Richland Center at the train station.  They will help you with maps, places to see, and friendly advice.  The town offers some nice walking and biking trails to keep you busy during the days or just tour the shops.  Kayaking and canoeing is available at the Rockbridge store located on Highway 80 about 9 miles north of Richland Center.
