Rice Lake Fishing Report

The walleyes are biting. Plain and simple! Catching 35-45 walleyes is not out of the question. They are very grouped up right now so when you find a group of them, stay on them because you will catch several of them. I have been targeting deeper water in 25-30 feet. As the fall progresses the thermocline will drop, with that the fish can move deeper.

Jig and minnow have been the ticket. Using them vertically, use a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce jig for that deep depending on how stiff the wind is. Jig up and use a slow controlled drop. The fish will hit on the downfall and if your line is right, you will feel the hit. Set the hook immediately.

For Muskies, target shallow underwater points, or any structure you can find. They are feeding heavy right now, and any bait that is hiding in the last areas of green weeds will be key areas to hit. Don't shy away from big baits, but work them slow as the water cools.

Good luck fishing and remember, introduce someone new into the outdoors. They will appreciate it for a lifetime.
