Rice Lake Fishing Report

Warm weather and an earlier spring than we have been used to the past few years is putting an end to ice fishing. I wouldn't recommend anyone to try ice fishing as the ice is definitely not safe.

We have just over a month and we can start looking forward to open water fishing season. It's always a hard thing to wait for, but there's still a chance to get that boat out, make repairs, and get things ready for the opener. In the meantime, if one wants to fish some open water right after ice out, you can really get into a good panfish bite. Find the shallow dark bottom bays. These many times will be located on the north end of lakes, or on the north side of a bay. The sun penetrates that side more, which in turn warms that water faster. Try fly fishing for these fish slowly, or a real small bobber. These fish will be very skittish so approach and fish with caution.
