Rice Lake Fishing Report 5-13-2014
Thanks to some decent weather, the water is starting to warm up nicely. The fish are slowly starting to put the feed bag on and becoming more active. With that said, still working the bait slow is going to get more bites than working a bait aggressively right now.
The walleyes are still pushing into the shallows in the evening and through early morning. There are plenty of fish that are staging just outside the shallows in 10-15 feet of water that can be caught under a slip bobber, or vertically jigging. I like to cast into the shallows with a light jig and minnow, and put out a dead stick rod as I work the boat in 12-14 feet of water. The dead stick jig and minnow will be right below the boat and hovering a foot or two off of the bottom. The fish will come up and take the bait and as the rod bends set the hook.
Good luck fishing and remember, introduce someone new into the outdoors. They will appreciate it for a lifetime.
