Rice Lake Area Fishing Reports 8-5-2014

The walleyes are being found in a variety of depths depending on the body of water. Once you find the depth, you are halfway done with the battle. Color, and speed are the next factor. Fish are falling victim to trolling right now. Cranks or spinners are working, so pick your poison and go after them. Fish are really following baitfish, and you will find plenty following the perch over softer bottom, or just outside the weed edges. Troll around these areas and you will catch fish.

Slip bobbers are still catching plenty of fish as well. Fish are sitting on the edges and moving onto the flats at night. Catch them moving up and you will catch plenty of fish to keep you busy. At times you won't be able to keep more than one rod in the water at a time.

The bluegills are sitting in deeper water of 18-22 feet where you can find hard bottom areas with that depth. Small leeches are the ticket, and they are very aggressive right now so you can set the hook right away. They are in big schools but sitting in specific areas. Once you find them, you'll have your hands full.

The bass are hiding within the stumps for cooler water and some shade to avoid the bright sunlight. When you hook one, make sure to horse the fish towards the boat. They will hit the bait and try to drag you into the stump. Sometimes you will not be able to get the fish. Throwing plastics are your best bet.

Good luck fishing and remember, introduce someone new into the outdoors. They will appreciate it for a lifetime.
