Price County Fishing Report
Over the weekend we witnessed one of the craziest hot bites for panfish that any of us can remember, It seemed like everyone was catching a lot of fish as Crappie and Gills seemed to both move into the shallow wood and brush shorelines of area lakes at the same time. Panfish anglers were reporting action coming on a large variety of baits with some of the top producers for crappie being Minnows, Sliders, and Mini Mites. On the blugill side small ice fishing plastics, Waxies and good ole worms topped list of fish catching baits. I look for the panfish to be heavy in the shallows thru the week and into the holiday weekend. Panfishing is a great way to spend time on the water with families as the fast action can keep children busy for hours and panfish are also a great way to introduce new anglers to the fun world of fishing.
Walleye action has been a little on the tough side on area lakes but with a little time on the water you can pick up a nice meal of eaters. We are having our best luck using Lindy Rigs with Phelps Floaters tipped with an Extra Large Fathead minnow for bait. Drag this rig slow with long pauses around rock or wood bottoms of area lakes keying in on the 9 to 15 foot depths. Key times are low light times of the day both early morning and evenings.
