Price County Fishing Report

You really couldn’t beat the weather for the 2016 opening fishing season over this last weekend, Friday before the opener we noticed a larger then normal number of anglers that had taken the day off and enjoyed the almost 90 degree day on the water for some panfishing, Saturday saw cooler temps and some wind but for the anglers that fought the wind it really seemed to pay off.

Anglers that had the most success catching walleye were fishing the windblown 3 to 6’ mud flats or windblown shoreline drops from 3 to 12 feet of water in the deeper lakes. Casting Cranks and stickbaits like the Rapala Husky Jerk seemed to be taking the larger walleye with jig and minnow combos catching more numbers but smaller sized walleye. Hot colors for the weekend were Firetiger or Perch for cranks and stickbaits and Jighead colors were Pink or Chartreuse.

Crappie action was ok, even with the hot weather on Friday the cool morning temps are slowing the shallow water crappie bite and forcing anglers to look for them in scattered in the deeper water. Usually at this time of the year Crappie are congregated in the shallows around fallen trees and brush piles making them an easy target for anglers. Look for the Crappie to move in to shallower water as the overnight temps warm.
