Price County Fishing Report 2/2/15
One of the most frustrating things about ice fishing is seeing the fish on your electronics and the best you can do is get them to follow your bait around a little. What do most of us do when this happens? We down size, Size 16 and 18 micro jigs with one spike or a micro sized plastic should do the trick, right? Well.... Maybe your going the wrong direction!!! This winter more then not I have been doing better going bigger!!! 1/8 ounce Lindy Frostee's have been a Crappie and Perch killer for me. I have also been doing very well on Slender Spoons, Moonshine Jigs, Swedish Pimples, and Echo Tails. Tip any of these lures with your favorite plastics or a big old gob of spikes and be ready to catch fish. In most cases when a Crappie or Perch commits to eating one of these larger profile baits they hit it hard and you can't help but catching the fish.
My Clients and I are finding Crappie, Perch, and Bluegills on the mid lake mud flats, there seems to be a little bit of a bug hatch going on right now and the fish are spitting up gobs of wigglers, worms and other bug type creatures when we pull them to the surface. Because of this we are doing best fishing tight to the bottom to maybe a foot or 2 off the mud bottom. We have also been getting some walleyes in these same areas jigging bigger spoons or by setting a tip-up with a medium golden shiner nearby.
Pictured is a nice Crappie that I caught, it has a 1/8 ounce spoon engulfed in its mouth, also pictured is a selection of larger spoons that you will find me using on the ice.

“The goodness of a person and of the society he or she lives in often comes down to very simple things and words found in the Scout Law. Every society depends on trust and loyalty, on courtesy and kindness, on bravery and reverence. These are the values of Scouting, and these are the values of Americans.”
