Lake Geneva Fishing Report 7/30/17 through 8/6/17

Lake Geneva continues to have steady fishing in the normal summer patterns.

Bluegill fishing has been fantastic in 21-23 ft of water for the bigger fish.  The best location has been in between Knollwood and Elgin Club or by Gage Marine.  You want to fish a small split shot rigged trout worm underneath the boat for the best success.   The bigger fish are holding tight to the bottom from about 6 inches to 1 foot off bottom.

Smallmouth bass fishing has been challenging.  The fish are scattered throughout the water column chasing pods of minnows.  The best success has been coming out of 25 ft of water near the 700 club and Linn Pier.  They have been biting on 4 inch drop shot Chomper worms in green pumpkin with purple and red flake.

Northern Pike fishing has been good in 33 to 35 ft of water.  The best location has been the east shore of Williams Bay, Black Point and the beach in Fontana.  Try for them by lindy rigging medium suckers right on bottom.  Use a 24 inch leader with a 1/0 hook and ¾ oz sinker for the best success.

Musky action remains good.  The best location has been by Trinkes or Maytag Point.  Grandma lures in a perch pattern have been producing most of the action.  Fish for them in the weed flats in 12-15 ft of water.

Lake trout fishing has been hot in the main lake basin.  Look for them in 130 ft of water about 110 ft down.  The best bait is green and blue  or nickel and blue spoons.   Fish the spoons behind an orange dodger.  The spoon should be about 2 ft behind the dodger.

Largemouth bass are on the weed points like Maytag point, the 700 club or by Colemans Point. You can either Carolina rig them with a green pumpkin Zoom lizard or drop shot rig with a 4 inch green pumpkin finesse worm.  I’ve been finding the bigger fish in 22 -25 ft of water.  The best bite is when there is a light chop on the water.  On the days when the lake is flat calm, fish for them with chrome/blue or chrome/black chug bugs over the weed flats in 6-8 ft of water.  The shallow bass action has been best in Williams Bay or just west of Linn Pier.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 262-728-8063
