Fishing Report for Richland County June 18, 2014
By Wayne Morgenthaler
The rain has muddied some waters, especially the big three trout streams (Pine River, Willow Creek, and Mill Creek). Small streams are the best and fish at the headwaters. Best way to fish these small streams is to bring the waders and fish upstream with a gold panther martin size 3.
The Wisconsin River is low now with sandbars being exposed just about everywhere. Catfish are biting and the best set up is an egg sinker and size 8 hook covered with one nice juicy night crawler. You just never know what you will catch in the river.
The backwaters have been excellent with best fishing at daybreak or the last two hours before sunset. Crappies, bluegills, and perch have been hitting on small plastics. Best color is pink and white. Make sure you wear some mosquito netting, long sleeve shirt and long pants. Bass are jumping after dragon flies and make some tremendous splashes.
