Dave Duwe Lake Geneva Fishing report 9/15/14 through 9/22/14

Due to the severe cold fronts this past week, fishing is pretty slow.  The best bite on the lake has been the bluegills in 15-20 ft of water.  The smallmouth bass and largemouth bass remain scattered throughout the water column and a consistent pattern is non-existent right now.

Bluegill fishing has been average in 15-20 ft of water.  The best location has been by Gage Marine and Elgin Club.  Most of the fish are being caught on small leaf worms fished straight beneath the boat on a split shot rig with a single hook and small split shot.  The fish are within 1 foot of bottom.

Smallmouth bass are sporadically being caught.  The best location is on the main lake points, like Conference Point and Black Point.  They are being caught on split shot rigged nightcrawlers or large fat head minnows.  The best depth is 15-20 ft of water.  The fish are still not schooled up but should be soon as the water temperature stabilizes.

Northern Pike fishing has been improving as the water cools.  The thermocline which was very weakly formed has now dissipated.  The fish are now in the shallow weed flats by Fontana Beach or in Williams Bay.  They are being caught on slip bobber rigged suckers or while casting white spinner baits.

Walleye fishing remains steady.  The fish are being caught at night while trolling large Rapalas. Look for them by Abbey springs or by Trinkes.  You want to work a depth of 12-15 ft of water.

Largemouth bass are being caught on a hit or miss basis.  They are in the weed flats in 8-10 ft of water.  Most of the fish are being caught in Trinkes or in Geneva Bay around the Riviera Docks.  They can be caught on either a split shot rigged nightcrawler or a red spinner bait.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
