Dave Duwe Lake Geneva Fishing Report 8/18/14 through 8/25/14

Due to the cooler than normal summer, the fishing has been a bit slower than normal as well.  There are plenty of fish to be had, however the schools of bigger fish have been few and far between.

The smallmouth bass have been sporadic.  The best depth is 18-20 ft of water.  Most of the fish are being caught on lindy rigged nightcrawlers or small yellow perch.  The best location has been by the Lake Geneva Yacht Club or Fontana Beach.  The fish have yet to school up like they normally due on the deep water rock.  If we get some hot weather, the fishing should improve.

Rock bass fishing has been excellent in the 12-14 ft depth range.  They are aggressively hitting split shot rigged nightcrawlers.  The best location has been by the old Military Academy and by Elgin Club.

Largemouth bass fishing has been very good.  The best location has been by Coleman’s Point or by Trinkes.  Look for the fish in 18-20 ft of water.    The best approach is either a Lindy rigged nightcrawler or Carolina rigging a green Zoom lizard in a 6 inch size.

Walleye fishing has been above average.  The fish are biting at night in 15 ft of water.  The best place to fish for them is in Williams Bay or in Trinkes.  The fish are suspended about 2 ft above the weeds.  The best bait are large Countdown Rapalas in chrome and blue or chrome and black.

The best bite on the lake is the bluegills.  They can be caught in 20-22 ft of water.  The best location has been by Gage Marine or by Elgin Club.  Most of the fish are being caught on full nightcrawlers fished on a split shot rig fished straight beneath the boat.  I’ve tried smaller worms but they seem to prefer the nightcrawlers.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
