Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 9/29/14 through 10/6/14

Fishing on Delavan continues to be difficult compared to normal action this time of year.  The constant high pressure have the fish in a lull pattern.  There isn’t any rhyme or reason for the fish locations.  If you can find an active school, you can catch a few, but if you don’t locate one it’s a real struggle.

The best bite on Largemouth bass has been in 12-14 ft of water.  They can be caught using 3 methods; medium diving crankbaits in perch pattern, a medium sucker or a split shot rigged nightcrawler.  The fish are very spotty.  You need to keep the boat in constant motion for the best success.  The schools fished in the past have dissipated.

Bluegill action has been poor.  The best bite has been the suspended fish in the main lake basin, 15-20 ft down in 40 ft of water.    They can be caught on split shot rigged leaf worms or small red worms.  Look for the fish by the Village Supper Club or the Yacht Club.

Walleye fishing has started to improve.  The walleyes are starting to show up in the 18-20 ft depth range.  Most of the fish are being caught on split shot nightcrawlers or extra large fat head minnows.  Look for them by 3 flags or east of Browns Channel.

With the cooler water temperatures the smallmouth bass are starting to show up in the 14-16 ft depth range.  Look for them adjacent to the main lake points.  The best approach is medium suckers or split shot rigged nightcrawlers, large fat head minnows are also an option.  Most of the fish I’ve caught have been by the Yacht Club point or just east of Browns Channel.  The average size has been about 14 inches.

Northern Pike action has been below average.  They haven’t been active due to the water temperatures.  Most of the fish I’ve been getting have been between 15 and 20 ft of water.  I’m using large lindy rigged suckers.  I’ve been trolling the deep weed breaks from the Yacht Club west to Willow Point.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
