Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 9/15/14 through 9/22/14

Delavan Lake is in a transition period from the summer pattern to the fall pattern.  Fishing has been slow due to the tremendous cold front that hit last week.  I’ve gone from double digit catches of game fish down to single digit and have been seeing only the smaller fish.  With some stable weather fishing will improve.

The bluegill fishing remains the best bite on the lake.  They are actively feeding in 13-15 ft of water.  Look for the fish by Assembly Park or by Browns Channel.  They are being caught on split shot rigged leaf worms or a wax worms on an ice jig.

The largemouth bass are scattered in less than 10 ft of water.  The best location has been by the Yacht Club or by Browns Channel.  The best presentation has been Rattle Traps or split shot rigged nightcrawlers.  Currently the overall size of the fish has been relatively small.  The large fish haven’t been biting well.  As we proceed into fall, the bite will become more consistent as the water temperature stabilizes.

Northern Pike like the largemouth are being found in less than 10 ft of water.  They are in the scattered weeds.  The fish can be caught on slip bobber rigged medium shiners.  The best location has been by Willow Point or by Browns Channel. A secondary presentation has been in line Bucktails in black or white.  You want to fish them about 1 foot above the weeds.

Walleye action has been slow.  There are a few being caught on jigging Rapalas or lindy rigged fat head minnows.  The best location has been by 3 flags or west of Willow Point.  As the fall progresses, the walleye bite will improve.  Once the water cools, the best presentation will by Husky Jerks or chrome and blue Rattle Traps.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
