Dave Duwe Delavan Lake Fishing Report 8/11/18 through 8/18/18

The action on Delavan Lake has improved from the previous weeks.  With the cooler summer, the bass haven’t moved out on the deep weedline very much.  The best action is in water depths of 6-13 ft of water.  You will find multiple species there.

Largemouth bass fishing has been excellent in 6-8 ft of water.  The fish are associated with hard sand bottoms and scattered weeds.  The best presentation is medium suckers fished underneath a Thill big fish slip bobber.  I’ve been having good success by Browns Channel or west of the Yacht Club.  The split shot rigged nightcrawler bite has been on and off depending on the day.

Bluegill action has also been excellent.  Like the largemouth, they are shallower than normal.  I’m catching them in 10-13 ft of water inside the weedline.  The best approach is split shot rigged leaf worms.  The key to the presentation is using a really small split shot and let the leaf worm float through the water.

Northern Pike fishing has been very slow this week.  The bigger fish that I’ve caught were in 8-10 ft of water on the weedline.  The best location has been in Viewcrest Bay or by the Yacht Club.  Like the largemouth bass the best presentation is medium suckers fished beneath a Thill big fish slip bobber.  Fish the bait about 1 foot above the weeds.

Walleye action has been very slow.  I haven’t caught a walleye in a few weeks.  I have tried fishing for them when I see them on my depth finder in 20-25 ft of water, but they aren’t biting.  I’ve tried both leeches and nightcrawlers on lindy rigs.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the water.  For guide parties, please call Dave Duwe at 608-883-2050
