Chequamegon Bay Area Fishing Report, September 8, 2016

Anglers All, Located at 2803 E. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2) in Ashland, is a full-service tackle and fly shop with a professional guide service for Lake Superior and area inland lakes and rivers, offering the largest selection of baits and tackle in the Chequamegon Bay area.  For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give them a call at 715/682-5754, and they will gladly keep you informed!

Carolyn from Angler All reported: Fish are starting to pattern and move into clean water and the mud lines. The Browns and Coho’s haven’t started staging yet, but they expect it could be any day as the water temps are now dropping. The fall should bring in some nice size Salmon. There have been nice size fish being caught from Houghton Point to Pikes all summer and early September. Anglers report fishing Long Island has been really good. Trolling for Trout has been great using spoons and spin-n-glows most commonly. Overall, the Big Lake is in good shape and fishing has been good. Fishing the Bay and the Apostle Islands has great for trolling!

Walleye fishing has been good. When you have a clear sunny day, Anglers are fishing the edges of the channel and into the channel to catch Walleye. Use crawlers or stick baits in the early morning or evening and fish the shoreline and the edges of the weeds out in the bay.

Inland Lakes have really good reports from anglers catching Pan Fish, Bass and Northerns.
The Small Mouth bite has been really good in the Bay. If you can locate the Baitfish, you can locate the Small Mouth.

River Rock Inn & Bait Shop, Located at 1200 W. Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 2), in Ashland where you can stop in and see their wide variety of live bait, fishing tackle, gear, accessories, fresh and smoked fish, local cheeses, meats, and microbrews, and much more. Call them at 715/682-3232 for the most current fishing report.

Scott from River Rock reports: Lake Trout are moving into shallower water. They are in the 50 to 60 foot depth but are still on the bottom. There have been some Salmon and Browns being caught near the Islands and they have been a really nice size. With reports of 6lb Salmon already being caught, this could be a good indication of some really nice size Salmon this fall. The water temps are dropping fast at this time of year. Anglers are trolling for Lake Trout using spoons and doing well catching fish. There has been some nice size Lakers being caught. Trolling for Walleye has been really good in the Bay this year, using Stick Baits such as Rapalas or Bombers or Crawler Harnesses.

Fishing the Inland Lakes has been great as the weeds die down and the water cools down. You can catch some large Crappies and Pan Fish right from the shore.

Small Mouth Bass fishing in the Bay has been really good. The Bass are in 15 feet of water and anglers are catching them on sucker minnows.

Scott wants to say “Welcome Bear Hunters”. You can fish the Bay in the morning near shore and hunt the area in the afternoon. There have been some really large bear seen on game cameras. More bear than usual and they are trophy size bear!

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, 1-800-284-9484, reports: Fishing is always a thrilling adventure in the Ashland area! Chequamegon Bay is famous for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing. The 12-mile-long bay’s rock piles and breakwater structures make for perfect bass habitat.
