Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

The fall musky bite is right now and big fish are being caught by anglers running large suckers run under bobbers and by guys throwing large jerkbaits like Suicks and Mantas.  Most of the action is in 8 to 14 feet of water but a few fish have been caught suspended over very deep water up to 30 feet deep.

Walleyes have been very active and nice catches are being made by anglers working the deeper pockets in the river and sharp drop-offs in the lake.  Most of the walleyes are in at least 10 to 12 feet of water with some even deeper.  A slow presentation using jigs tipped with large fathead minnows has been the best means for targeting these walleyes.

 Deer hunters are getting ready for the rut which is just about on top of us.  With that said hunters should start looking at doe feeding and bedding areas and positioning stand locations in the transition areas between them.  Remember to always place your stand on the downwind side of where you think the bucks will be coming from, and with the rut upon us it is also a good idea to start hunting all hours of the day as big bucks will now be out roaming in search of does all day long.
