Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Well it was a tough opener in Wisconsin for the 2016 gun deer season.  With winds gusting over 40 MPH and warm temperatures the deer were not moving well.  Despite the lack of movement hunters were surprisingly successful.  As the week progressed the weather got better and a number of big bucks were taken.  In addition to the number of deer taken we were able to get out on the water this past week and do a little fishing.  Water temperatures are in the mid to upper 30’s right now which means any sustained cold weather could put ice on our water system.

With the 2016 gun deer season almost over that only means one thing…  Muzzleloader season!  The 2016 muzzleloader season begins immediately following the 9 day gun deer season. With that said anyone that did not shoot a deer during the gun deer season still has opportunities at filling their tag.  In addition, archery season remains open into January but just remember to wear blaze orange until the muzzleloader season is over.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

With water temperature in the mid to upper 30’s we are still able to get out on some of our favorite bodies of water and do some open water fishing.  This past week the musky and walleye bite continued to be good with plenty of action.   We caught plenty of walleyes in the 15 to 20 inch range on jig and minnow combinations, and a few nice muskies on live suckers.  Most of the fish were in 10 to 14 feet of water holding very tight to the bottom.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

It won’t be long now with a few cold nights we could be on the ice!

Have a great week,
