Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Well here we are, the start of the 2016 nine-day gun deer season.  In Wisconsin it’s busier than any official holiday as hunters get ready to travel across the state to their favorite hunting destinations.  With that said I hope everyone has a safe and memorable hunt.  Weather conditions across the state look to be in for a drastic change and some areas in the northern half of the state could really be impacted by snow. It looks as though the entire state is going to have to have to deal with very strong winds!

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Even on the heels of the gun deer season we have still been getting out on the water and catching good numbers of walleyes and a few muskies.  The water temperatures remain in the upper 40’s which has prevented any type of ice-up and prolonged out typical fall open water season.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The action from walleyes has been very good with not only numbers of fish but some real hogs. These are big females that are already filling with eggs and heavily consumed forage, you will see from some of the photos just how fat some of these walleyes are.

The musky bite continues to be good with steady action on live suckers but we are still picking up a few nice fish on Bulldawgs and Suick’s.  Most of the activity has remained around deep weed edges and sharp contour breaks in 8 to 14 feet of water.  A slow retrieve has been a large key to provoking strikes.

If you haven’t already thought about it or taken your boat in for winterization, here is a little reminder for you to stop in and see Jerry or Jason at Amherst Marine for all your winterization and storage needs.  Don’t be “That Guy” that forgets and when next spring arrives your boat motor won’t start!  Call Amherst Marine at 715-824-5635 - These guys are great!
