With a lot of focus on deer hunting right now many anglers have taken to the woods instead of being on the water. With that said the few anglers that are hitting the water are doing very well on both muskies and walleyes. This is the best time of the year for that trophy of a lifetime and the die-hards that are out on the water are catching quite a few good ones. Most of the walleye action is in 10 to 14 feet of water and the bite has been the best by guys working 1/8th ounce jigs tipped with fathead minnows. The musky bite is going strong and a lot of nice fish are being caught by guys throwing jerkbaits like Suicks and Reef Hawgs as well as a good bite on live suckers. With the rut now just starting, (which is a little later than normal years) the bucks are beginning to chase does and come out of their protective cover. This course of action is going to continue taking place for the next few weeks. This is a good time to have stand locations set up near doe feeding areas and along travel routes. This is also the time of the year that once the rut has started the big bucks let their guard down and become much more accessible to awaiting hunters.
