Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

Well the fall changeover has started and it has started off with a bang.  The musky bite has been nothing short of phenomenal this past week and you will see from the photos just how good it was. The walleyes and crappies have moved to their tradition fall locations and are stacked up.  Activity in the woods has increased with hunters seeing plenty of deer and still, a few bears.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

The musky bite has gone from good to outstanding this past week with top times relating around peak moon phases.  We caught a lot of our fish on bucktails and jerkbaits but we are still getting a few on topwater baits as well.  Most of the fish have been in 6 to 8 feet of water holding on current breaks.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

Walleyes have been very aggressive as have the crappies this past week and the numbers really show it.  When you have days with over 100 fish in the boat you know it has been a good day but when you start hitting that 200 fish a day mark you know that you are on to something special.  Cooler water temperatures have pushed the walleyes and crappies into a feeding binge and it has been non-stop action on the water.  Most of these fish are in 12 to 18 feet of water holding right on current breaks and drop-offs.  The walleyes have been relatively tight to the bottom while the crappies have been suspended anywhere from 2 to 6 feet off the bottom.

On Wisconsin Outdoors

If you are looking for some real fun the bass are just getting started.  At this time of the year bass will seek out rock structure as a way of absorbing heat from the sun as it warms the area around it.  If you can find isolated rock piles or humps you will find the bass. Tube jigs, crankbaits and jerkbaits, and even top-water baits will all produce at this time of the year.

Have a great week,
