Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report 1/8/15
It has been another great week to be in Central Wisconsin but it has been a cold one. With temperatures barely getting above zero, we have been basically banished to stay in our homes and off the ice. Speaking of ice the conditions are getting better by the day.. average ice thickness in the central Wisconsin area is anywhere from 8 to 14 inches of good ice.
With that said though a few guys have ventured out and the bite has been good. The panfish have remained as active as they were early on in the season, and we have seen an abundance of really nice sized bluegills and crappies on our recent fishing trips. The walleye bite has tapered off a bit but the northern pike fishing is getting better and better by the day.
The one real bonus this year has been the surprising catfish bite. We have been hammering catfish in the 16 to 24 inch range. These are a very strong fighting fish that are providing a lot of action and excitement for our anglers. We are catching a lot of fish while Jigging, but we are also catching quite a few nice fish on tip-ups as well. If catfish is something you have never caught think about giving it a try they will put up a battle you wont ever forget. They are not bad table-fare either.
Have a great week,
Phil Schweik
