Central Wisconsin Outdoor Report

This past week we have seen a dramatic change in temperature and because of that, the fishing and conditions on the lakes in central and north central Wisconsin have gotten much better.

Fishing for panfish has been very good with limit catches of bluegills, crappies and perch.  The crappies and bluegills have been holding in shallow weeds in anywhere from 3 to 8 feet of water, and are hitting a Northland Mooska jig tipped with either spikes or waxies.  

The perch bite has really turned on this past week and we really got into some jumbos.  Most of the fish have been holding on mid depth flats that we found using our Humminbird electronics.  By pre-loading lake maps and searching out similar areas we were able to take advantage of fish holding on precise locations.  On the lakes that we have been fishing the perch were in anywhere from 13 to 18 feet of water. The most productive method we have found so far for catching the perch is jigging the Northland buckshot rattle spoons that have been tipped with a minnow head or a few waxies.
