Ashland Area Fishing Report for June 19, 2014

~ Fishing Guide Roger LaPenter and wife Carolyn from Anglers All, 715/682-5754 (http://www.anglersallwisconsin.com), report the following:

This report is about the Ashland side of Chequamegon Bay. Fishing has been very good overall this past week with quite a bit of walleye activity along the Ashland shoreline. People are catching them in the early morning and evening as the walleye follow the bait fish into shore during those dark hours.

The smallmouth bass are being caught along the shoreline as well, in addition to northerns. Water clarity and temperature play important roles in anglers’ success, so look for 50-ish-degree waters if possible, advises Carolyn LaPenter, because then the fish will be at their most active.

Anglers also are advised to look for periods when the same wind direction is predicted for a few days in a row as that will provide the most consistent water temperatures. If the area were to receive more rain this weekend, Carolyn suggests following the mud lines for best results.

Fishing has been good in the brushy area of the sand cut. Anglers are having success moving plastic slowly or fishing with crankbaits and spinner baits. They are snagging walleyes, northerns and perch there.

Trolling is taking place from Long Island to Houghton Point and from many points out into the big lake. They are using stickbaits at the first break as well as spoons and dipsy divers.

For the most complete and up-to-date fishing report, just give us a call at Anglers All and we will keep you informed!
